JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars have acquired quarterback Josh Dobbs in a trade with Pittsburgh, giving them a backup while Nick Foles recovers from a broken collarbone. The Jaguars gave up a fifth-round pick in the 2020 draft for Dobbs, who was in his third season with the Steelers. He was a fourth-round pick in 2017. He has played in five career NFL games, completing 6 of 12 passes for 43 yards and an interception.
HUGHESVILLE, Pa. (WJAC) — A one-legged chicken is back on two feet thanks to a group of Lycoming County eighth grade students. Students from East Lycoming School District took action to help a nearly year old chicken, named Blue, walk again. CNN affiliate WNEP says Blue was severely hurt after a raccoon broke into a chicken coop outside Briannah Miller's home near Montoursville. Several chickens died, and Blue lost her leg.
NEW YORK (TND) — Whenever I picture Green-Wood Cemetery, it is, for whatever reason, covered in a thick blanket of fog. Sometimes, I envision the monumental Gothic Revival-style main gate that stretches above an otherwise industrial area as a befitting emblem of the grandeur awaiting those who pass beneath its arches. Otherwise, it could be rows of long-faded headstones, no two emerging from the ground at precisely the same angle, or a splendid sculpture of a Roman goddess with a real-life mockingbird perched upon her outstretched hand, as if posing specifically for the bird watchers who frequent Green-Wood in the early hours of the morning.
WASHINGTON (TND) — The Senatepassed a bill reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration’s authority over the country’s vast aviation system, which comes as the agency is facing pressure to ramp up its safety oversight and procedures after a series of close calls on runways, high-profile incidents involving Boeing jets and a shortage of air traffic controllers. The bill passed with overwhelming bipartisan support and aims to fully staff safety and inspection teams, hire more air traffic controllers, boost safety standards and procedures and make it easier for travelers to get refunds, along with other priorities.
More progress is being made towards reconstructing the Ludwig House in downtown Johnstown. The home housed Clara Barton, who founded the Red Cross, as she helped survivors of the 1889 Johnstown Flood. Clara Barton House and Gardens Inc. recently obtained several grants, totaling tens of thousands of dollars from local organizations, including the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies. While the organization still needs more grant money, the reconstruction has slowly begun, starting with stabilizing the house and preventing more damage from the weather.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — The Heritage Discovery Center in Johnstown has reopened its doors after being closed during the pandemic. Some of the museums are open, so visitors have a chance to get out of the house and learn some history. Masks are encouraged and there are handing washing stations throughout the museum. The Children's Museum will remain closed, staff says, because of the hands-on learning experiences, it would be too risky and difficult to keep sanitized.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WJAC) — Penn state has announced plans for the end of the fall semester while urging students to get tested for COVID-19 before leaving campus. Dormitories at University Park will be closing on November 20. After Thanksgiving break, all classes will be online. Testing will be available for students beginning on November 6. For students who test positive for COVID-19, the university will make quarantine space available after November 20.
WASHINGTON (TND) — The Biden administration has cancelled approximately 10% of all outstanding student debt in the U.S. with its latest round of forgiveness Wednesday, according to Forbes. The administration forgave $6.1 billion in student debt for more than 300,000 borrowers from private for-profit system The Art Institutes this week. The schools, which shut down last year, falsified data, misled students and conned borrowers into accumulating significant debt without leading to promising career opportunities, according to the Education Department.
SEATTLE (AP) — Grief-stricken Chris Cornell fans left flowers at memorials across Seattle for the musician whose forceful, somber songs helped cement the city's place in rock history. One of the locations where people gathered was the Sound Garden art sculpture at a Seattle park, for which Cornell's band Soundgarden was named. "It's really sad that he could never find peace in his life," said Chad White, who came to the art display with his young son Ignatius to honor Cornell.
