BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities say a Breezewood man is behind bars following an animal cruelty investigation in Bedford County in which two horses were reportedly shot and killed. Police say in December, troopers were contacted after the two horses were found at a property along Menchtown Road, in East Providence Township. Investigators say both of the animals, which were ponies, had been shot in the head and a third horse was found shot but alive.
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A Centre County resident has been sentenced to jail time for intentionally causing a severe crash in State College that injured three people. Last December, police charged Letra Renninger for reportedly causing a multi-vehicle crash along South Atherton Street. Police say Renninger was accused of driving through a busy intersection, at a high-rate of speed, just prior to the crash. SEATTLE — REI CEO Eric Artz announced Thursday the company is laying off 357 employees as it braces for what's expected to be a "challenging" year ahead. According to the message shared with employees, the layoffs will impact 200 people at headquarters, six from sales and customer support, 30 from experiences, meaning classes and trips, and 121 in distribution centers. No non-headquarters store-specific roles will be impacted. ST. MARYS, Pa. - An employee at an Elk County-based insurance company has been accused of stealing more than $50,000 from the company. Jane Chelgreen, 63, has been charged with several counts of theft. According to police, Chelgreen worked at Nicklas Insurance in St. Mary's and stole from the company from 2014 until 2018. Police said Chelgreen would take money when customers paid cash and pocket the money without reporting it.
Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — Daryl Vincent Lee Jr. was found shot to death on the side of Route 403 in July. Family of the 44-year-old said they did not get to have a funeral because his body was too decomposed. They said they gathered Saturday afternoon to give themselves, and community members, a chance for closure. "We didn't really have a chance to say goodbye," Lee's uncle Dwight Webster said.
Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — Cambria County court officials confirmed that an area pest control worker who was caught on video urinating inside a local family's living room has entered a plea in the case. Officials say Roger Young appeared in court earlier this week where he pleaded guilty to one count of disorderly conduct. Authorities note that the charge was downgraded to a non-traffic citation, and his other charge of criminal mischief was withdrawn.
