Summer is here, and the longer days mean more time spent outdoors with our favorite furry friends. However, just like humans, pets can suffer damage from the sun’s rays, leading to issues such as dehydration and heatstroke. Unfortunately, there are several heatstroke-related pet fatalities each year; however, with vigilant monitoring and proper care, you can keep your pet safe from overheating and heatstroke. PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) — A Maine man who pleaded guilty to terrorism charges after trying to kill three New York City police officers with a machete was sentenced to 27 years in prison Thursday. In a statement, 20-year-old Trevor Bickford, of Wells, apologized and admitted he traveled near Times Square in on New Year's Eve in 2022 and attacked the officers. Prosecutors said Bickford specifically went after police officers with a machete and tried to grab one of their guns before getting shot in the shoulder.

SEATTLE (WKRC) - A mother was arrested after allegedly shaking her two-year-old child "like a ragdoll" on a Delta Air Lines flight. According to USA Today, a Sacramento woman was ordered to be detained last Wednesday after she was allegedly seen abusing her 2-year-old on Delta Flight 1922 from Mexico to Seattle. The United States Attorney's Office, Western District of Washington reported that 33-year-old Breanna R. Mistler was taken into custody at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after multiple witnesses from the flight reported seeing her abuse a child.

University Park, PA (WJAC) — UPDATE: Penn State University has announced that the Nittany Lion Shrine at University Park will reopen on Saturday, May 28th. ORIGINAL: Officials say crews are continuing to repair the Nittany Lion Shrine, located on Penn State's University Park campus, after it was vandalized earlier this month. According to the university, vandals broke an ear and splashed red paint on the shrine, in addition to graffitiing Old Main, and the Hintz Family Alumni Center, in red paint.

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan became the franchise's leader in games coached Tuesday night. Sullivan surpassed Eddie Johnston after coaching his 517th game as a member of the Penguins. Last season, Sullivan became the team's all-time winningest coach in the playoffs.
