Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Huntingdon County say an 83-year-old man is facing several felonies, accused of attempting to burn down a woman's home Monday morning with her still inside it. According to a criminal complaint, Gary Harbst, of Huntingdon, faces numerous charges including attempted homicide, arson, aggravated assault and risking catastrophe. Troopers say just before 8 a.m. Monday, Harbst reportedly drove his UTV from his residence along John Bum Road to the victim's home, located along the 7300 block of Fosters Road in Union Township.
JOHNSTOWN, PA. (WJAC) — Three people are facing charges stemming from what police call a hostage situation in Ferndale last week, according to Cambria County District Attorney Kelly Callihan. This all began when Ferndale and other local police departments surrounded a home on Summit Avenue Thursday morning after a woman inside called 911. Callihan told 6 News last week that during the incident, a man and a woman, who were being held against their will, escaped the home from a second story window into police protection.
(WJAC) — Authorities say 150 animals were rescued from two residential properties in in Washington and Westmoreland counties in what humane society officials are calling an alleged large-scale neglect situation. The Washington Area Humane Society, with the assistance of the Humane Society of the United States, seized 150 cats, kittens, dogs and chickens. According to the Humane Society of the United States, local authorities served search and seizure warrants on two residential properties early Wednesday morning.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The Johnstown Redevelopment Authority announced that Hanging Gardens LLC has purchased the building they had been renting. The property sits at 108 Iron Street in Johnstown. Hanging Gardens entered into a lease agreement with the authority for the same location in 2018, but the authority had owned the property since 2004. The sale was finalized on Friday. It will allow for the expansion of Hanging Gardens and will put the property back into taxation.
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — The Blair County War Veterans Council is calling for veterans to participate Monday in the Altoona Memorial Day Parade. The parade starts at 10 a.m. and lineup begins at 9:15 a.m. Veterans can walk in the parade, but cars will also be available for those who feel more comfortable riding. ST. MARYS, Pa. — A small historical church in Elk County recently took a big hit. St. Marys Police Chief Tom Nicklas said the donation box from Decker’s Chapel was vandalized and stolen. Nicklas said through surveillance cameras, police identified one of the vandals as Breanna Uhl, 25, of Force. Uhl is facing several charges including institutional vandalism, theft and intentional desecration of a public monument. Nicklas said charges are pending against a second person.

The Ridgetop Volleyball Club said two of its teams qualified for a national tournament coming up. They said a 16U and 17U team are leaving Sunday for a four-day tournament in Florida starting Monday, June 26 with championship games being played Thursday, June 29. Coaches and players said the tournament will be a grind with at least three games to play each day. The club said a 14U team represented them at nationals last week.
