LEWISTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) -- One woman is dead, and several others were injured after an early morning fire at a high-rise apartment building in Lewistown, Mifflin County, according to a fire official. Lewistown Borough Fire Chief Bob Barlett said they were called to the Kish Apartments on South Main Street just after 5 on Thanksgiving morning for an automatic fire alarm. His crews quickly discovered fire in an apartment on the third floor with a woman victim inside.
WASHINGTON (CITC) — More than 50 parent organizations confronted the Biden administration Wednesday over its newest Title IX rules, claiming it is prioritizing "inclusion" over student safety. In a letter led by Parents Defending Education (PDE), the 53 groups accused U.S. Department of Education Secretary Miguel Cardona of violating the rights of students through the changes. The new regulations released earlier this month broaden the federal civil rights law to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in educational institutions receiving federal funding.
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Almost 80 years have passed since Anne Frank and her family were found and captured by the Nazis during World War II. A team of investigators recently released who they believe betrayed the Frank family to the Nazis. That team was led by Vince Pankoke, a Johnstown native with over 35 years of law enforcement experience. 6 News interviewed Pankoke over Zoom. Here's how he said it happened.
LOGAN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) -- The Logan Township Police Department is receiving $16,000 in grant money from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. Chief David Reese says the department was awarded funds from the Reduction of Underage and Dangerous Drinking grant. He said the grants are applied for and awarded on a yearly basis. Reese said around $8,000 will go toward advertising on billboards geared toward younger people, designed to get the message out about underage drinking and dangerous drinking.

Rose Montoya, a transgender woman, shared a video she filmed from Saturday's event with her TikTok followers.
Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County say an Upper Yoder Township woman died Tuesday after drowning in her hot tub. Cambria County coroner Jeff Lees identified the woman as 71-year-old Kate Blake. Lees says Blake was reportedly found face down in the hot tub at her home along Menoher Blvd., and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say Blake reportedly fell into the hot tub and drowned.
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — Sears Holdings announced the closure of 80 more stores Thursday, including Sears in Altoona. The company said in a release the closures are part of the company’s process to accelerate its strategic transformation and facilitate its financial restructuring. The company said the stores, five of which are in Pennsylvania, will close in late March 2019. The accompanying Sears Auto Center at the stores mentioned will also be closing.
