(TCS) — Part-time workers for the state of North Carolina would be able participate in North Carolina’s 401(k) retirement savings plan under a bill that passed the House of Representatives this week and is now pending in the Senate. The legislation was one of three bills pending in the Legislature related to state retirement benefits and could make it easier for the state to recruit part-time workers, state treasurer Dale Folwell told The Center Square.

The Port Matilda EMS started posting on its Facebook page about its financial needs last November. Since then the company has received some funds and a very generous anonymous donation. Pittsburgh, Pa (WJAC) — According to NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly releasing backup quarterback Devlin "Duck" Hodges to make room on the roster for another backup quarterback, Josh Dobbs. Dobbs was originally drafted by Pittsburgh in 2017, and was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars at the beginning of last season; the Jaguars then released him this past offseason. Hodges was signed last season as a free agent and went 3-3 as a starter, while filling in for an injured Ben Roethlisberger and backup Mason Rudolph.
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Centre County say a Bellefonte man is behind bars after being accused of repeatedly calling 911 and harassing the dispatchers, all while claiming that the local police department was "mind-controlling" him. According to the affidavit, police say 29-year-old James Surovec allegedly kept calling the Centre County 911 center to report "non-emergencies." Investigators say Survoec reportedly called the center 24 times over a few-day period.
CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — An SCI Houtzdale inmate in prison for child rape was pronounced dead Tuesday, according to a press release. Superintendent of the State Correctional Institute at Houtzdale Scott Klinefelter stated in the release that Daniel Barnett, 40, was found unresponsive in his cell Tuesday afternoon by prison staff. According to the release, prison staff and medical personnel performed life-saving measures until EMS arrived on scene. The release states that Barnett was pronounced dead just before 4:30 p.
