UPDATE:JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — Cambria County District Attorney Greg Neugebauer says that the two men involved in Saturday afternoon's shots fired incident at the Sheetz on Broad Street have been charged. Neugebauer says police reviewed the surveillance video of the incident, as well as the Facebook video that shows the "second half of the incident." Police say the two men, identified as Guillermo Alverez and William Sauro, got into a verbal altercation which led to Sauro striking Alvarez with his car.
BELLWOOD, Pa. (WJAC) -- State police conducted an investigation at the Bellwood-Antis School District on Tuesday, after they said a former assistant wrestling coach was charged with sexually assaulting two teens. Parents want to know what went wrong. “Most of you have children and grandchildren,” said one grandparent. “My grandchild wrestled last year. I can’t say what I would’ve done if he would’ve been one of the victims.” Police said Children and Youth Services reported in December 2019 that 39-year-old Ryan Blazier had sexually assaulted an 8-year-old girl.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — Summer is just around the corner and so is the largest cicada emergence in over 200 years. Cicada Brood XIX, which emerges every 13 years, and Brood XIII, which emerges every 17 years, will be buzzing together for the first time since 1803. While cicadas are not harmful to humans, officials with the Best Friends Animal Society areissuing reminders to help people keep their pets safe during the cicada mania.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, The PA Crimes Code provides that all forms of gambling are illegal unless the Pennsylvania Legislature authorizes the gambling activity by statute. Raffles, pools, and drawings seem to be benign forms of gambling but they still apply to the Pennsylvania law. DUBOIS, Pa. (WJAC) — A state trooper assigned to Troop C in DuBois has died. According to the Fraternal Order of Police, Trooper Monty Mitchell was returning to the barracks Monday after advising he was not feeling well. While backing a vehicle into a parking spot, he suffered a medical episode. Members provided life saving measures, but Mitchell was later pronounced dead at Penn Highlands Hospital. The post says Mitchell was 45-years-old and had enlisted with the Pennsylvania State Police in 2007.
TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas — A Travis County grand jury returned six separate indictments earlier this month charging 28-year-old Mitchell Wasek, the son of a co-founder of Texas-based gas station chain Buc-ee's, with 21 counts of invasive visual recording. According to the Travis County District Attorney’s Office, the charges pertain to 13 separate victims who were allegedly secretly recorded by Wasek over the course of two years. “The Travis County District Attorney’s Office takes the work of presenting all facts and evidence to a grand jury very seriously,” said Travis County District Attorney José Garza.
Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — Huntingdon County District Attorney David Smith has announced the arrest of a Virginia man in connection to a 13-year-old cold case/double murder in Mount Union. Authorities say Morico Johnson, 47, of Newport News, Virginia, was arrested earlier this week and charged with two counts of criminal homicide in the shooting deaths of 31-year-old Beatrice Daniels and her 22-year-old niece Christine McWhorter in January of 2009.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A baby alligator has been found in the parking lot of a grocery store near Pittsburgh, making it the fourth alligator discovered roaming around the city since May. Shaler Township Police Lt. Dave Banko tells the Tribune Review an employee found the 2-foot-long creature Friday morning near a garbage can at the Giant Eagle grocery store. The police department posted on its Facebook page that reptile's owner should send them a message.
UNIVERSITY PARK - Former Penn State kicker Joey Julius left the football team a few months before the current season. Julius said he's been struggling with an eating disorder since he was 9 years old and called the disorder his "secret struggle". Julius was a Big Ten athlete for two years, but his image haunted him and his peers harassed him. While on the team, he was nicknamed "Big Toe" and was best known for his aggressive play on kick returns — something counter intuitive for most kickers.
