Penn State fires womens gymnastics head coach

UNIVERSITY PARK - Penn State University women's gymnastics head coach Jeff Thompson was relieved of his duties Thursday, according to a news release from the university's athletics department.

Thompson was in his seventh year in charge of the program.

The university said assistants Kera Molinaro and Josh Nilson will serve as interim co-head coaches for the rest of the season.

The university would not specify for the reason of Thompson's firing, but Thompson's wife and former associate head coach, Rachelle Thompson, resigned in May after PennLive.com reported that several Nittany Lion gymnasts accused the couple of bullying and verbal abuse.
