DuBois man facing charges in overdose death of 27-year-old woman
DUBOIS, Pa (WJAC) — Police in Clearfield County say a DuBois man is facing charges in connection to the overdose death of a 27-year-old woman, according to a criminal complaint.
Patrick O'Brien, 37, faces charges of drug delivery resulting in death, involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence in relation to the incident that occurred in March, according to court documents.
The complaint states that on March 28th, around 10 p.m., Sandy Township police were dispatched to a home along Carson Avenue after O'Brien called and reported that the woman was not breathing.
Police say that when they arrived on scene, they found the woman lying on the floor while EMS attempted to perform CPR, the complaint adds.
Police add that after 15 minutes of attempting CPR, the woman was unable to be revived.
Upon searching the home, authorities say they recovered five pill bottles, prescribed to the woman, as well as 100 stamp bags of suspected heroin, cash and drug paraphernalia.
Police also noted that while they were searching the home, O'Brien ran and attempted to hide a metal container in the basement of the home, which contained heroin.
O'Brien admitted to trying to hide the drugs and to snorting heroin earlier that day, the complaint adds, and he also told police that the woman had used heroin.
O'Brien also told police that while he and the woman were using the drugs, he briefly left the room and came back to find her unresponsive, according to the complaint.
A family friend attempted to assist the woman, authorities noted, but the man told police that O'Brien would not allow him to perform CPR on her.
Authorities concluded that the amount of drugs and drug paraphernalia found in the home were common with the "selling and distribution of narcotics."
Thus, O'Brien is also facing felony drug manufacturing/possession charges, according to court documents, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 12th.
