New dog park expected to come to Cambria County in 2023

Dog lovers, listen up!

A new dog park will soon be coming to Cambria County.

The idea of a dog park in Ebensburg has been thrown around for years now and it’s finally coming to reality.

WJAC spoke to those involved in the Ebensburg Dog Park project and they tell us they’re very excited.

“Ebensburg is going to be putting in a dog park here. Hopefully sometime next year and were very excited. Its down here at lake Rowena, we've got a lot of recreational amenities, its going to fit in perfectly here" says Danea Koss, the Ebensburg Community Development Director.

Koss says the idea behind the Ebensburg dog park started about 3 and a half years ago and the idea branched off of “The Doggy Pooch Parties” held at the Ebensburg pool.

“I think the interest sort of sprung from those events that we were holding at the pool” Koss tells Channel 6.

Koss estimates the project will cost a few hundred thousand dollars and the team is just about to begin the bidding process so they know the exact cost.

“We really kind of have to wait to see what those look like before we can get started,” Koss adds “the lowest bidder will typically be awarded the project”.

Officials tell WJAC a big help to the borough during this entire process has been the Ebensburg Rotary Club.

“We thinks its really going to be a nice addition to the community,” says Phil Sutton the Chairperson of the Rotary Club Dog Park Committee.

Sutton says the project has already received grant money from The Southern Alleghanies Planning and Development Commission and The Community Foundation of the Alleghanies, but there also has been other fundraisers and sponsors.

“Of course we never know for sure what's going to cost until we get bids, but we think were in a pretty good place right now," says Sutton “and we’ve got an awful lot of support so were real excited about it”.

Officials say they hope to start the Ebensburg Dog Park by the spring and they hope not only will it become a popular attraction to Ebensburg residents, but all visitors.
