Child rapist found dead in cell at SCI Houtzdale, investigators say
CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — An SCI Houtzdale inmate in prison for child rape was pronounced dead Tuesday, according to a press release.
Superintendent of the State Correctional Institute at Houtzdale Scott Klinefelter stated in the release that Daniel Barnett, 40, was found unresponsive in his cell Tuesday afternoon by prison staff.
According to the release, prison staff and medical personnel performed life-saving measures until EMS arrived on scene.
The release states that Barnett was pronounced dead just before 4:30 p.m.
Barnett had been serving a 5 to 10 year sentence for child rape out of Montgomery County.
Klinefelter stated in the release that Pennsylvania State Police had been notified and will conduct an investigation and that a cause of death will be determined by the Clearfield County Coroner’s Office.
