Suspicious package found at JWF Industries in Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN -- One person has been charged after Johnstown police responded Thursday morning to JWF Industries after a suspicious package was found.

Christin Barnes, an employee at JWF Industries for 2 1/2 years, is facing felony charges of weapons of mass destruction causing evacuation and serious public inconvenience.

The package was found overnight Wednesday in the Iron Street business, police said.

Interim police Chief Jeff Janciga said a device that appeared to be a pipe bomb was found inside a shared locker in the Iron Street facility.

A supervisor removed the package from the locker and took it outside the building.

Janciga said his officers conducted a sweep of the building and a bomb squad from Pittsburgh was called to the scene.

The bomb squad detonated the device and took it to a remote location.

Janciga said members of bomb squad found nothing that would have put the building or employees in immediate danger.

Several employees were sent home as a precaution and police have one person in custody.

After police cleared the scene, they obtained a search warrant to search Barnes' home.

During the search, officers found items that are used to make pipe bombs.

Barnes is in the Cambria County Prison after he failed to post 10 percent of $50,000 bail.
