State College man pleads guilty to causing fatal hit-and-run near Millheim
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A State College man charged in a deadly hit-and-run crash nearly two years ago pled guilty in Centre County court Wednesday.
Authorities say Christopher Hort admitted to causing the fatal crash that claimed the life of 23-year-old John David King.
Police say on the night of April 17, 2020, Hort was traveling along Route 45, near Millheim, when he struck and killed King, who was on a scooter along the roadside.
Troopers say Hort initially told investigators that he thought he hit a deer and didn't stop because he thought he had a flat tire and was concerned with cell service in the area.
Following several court appearances, Hort was scheduled to go to trial on April 18.
On Wednesday, court officials say he pled guilty to one felony count of accident involving death or personal injury.
Officials say under the plea agreement, Hort will spend a minimum of 363 days in jail, and faces a maximum sentence of four years.
His sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 5.
